About the Product
Patua is a popular style of folk painting from West Bengal. This kind of painting is traditionally done on a piece of cloth known as a patta. The painters, called Patua, are an artisan community who wander from village to village and sing traditional songs while unrolling the scrolls, also called patua, in front of their audiences. These traditional paintings are special narrative scrolls based on sacred themes and also touch upon current issues. Potli is a member of Fairtrade Forum-India. We follow all Fairtrade practices laid down by the Forum. This kit directly supports the artisans and helps in sustaining their art form.
